On 14th January, 1915, the 1st South Wales Borderers battalion of 3 Brigade, 1st Division, moved into trenches on the north-east side of Givenchy, near La Bassée where they remained for the rest of the month. Here they had to contend with bad weather as well as attentions of enemy artillery and snipers and it is where Thomas Attwood was killed on 19th January. |
